How is the Metamorphosis Process of a Lobster

How is the Metamorphosis Process of a Lobster

Hello friends! Good Morning! Now, we’re going to tell you about lobster. Do you know lobster? Yes, we think every people must know it. Do you think that lobster is as same as shrimp? Or maybe crayfish? But, do you know that two of them are different with lobster? And now, we’re going to tell you about the differences between lobster, shrimp, and crayfish and more about lobster.

The three of them are : Lobsters are bigger and have big more rounded pinchers and live in salt water. Crayfish live in fresh water. Shrimps don’t have pinchers and live in salt water.

See? Now, you know about the differences of them. And now, we’re going to talk about lobster. Maybe, you don’t know that a 1-pound female lobster usually carries approximately 8,000 eggs and a 9-pound female may carry more than 100,000 eggs. Waw! And do you want to know how does it happen?

The female releases a pheromone which causes the males to become less aggressive and to begin courtship. Eventually, the male inserts spermatophores (sperm packets) into the female's seminal receptacle using his first pleopods. Female lobsters can carry live sperm for up to two years. At any ntime she may decide to fertilize her 3,000–75,000 eggs.

You have known that a1-pound female lobster usually carries approximately 8,000 eggs and a 9-pound female may carry more than 100,000 eggs. A freshly laid lobster egg is the size of the head of a pin (1/16"). The female lobster carries the eggs inside for 9 to 12 months and then for another 9 to 12 months externally attached to the swimmerets under her tail by a glue-like substance. And then, the eggs are ready to hatch.

Lobsters have three stages before they become adult. It’s larval stage, post-larval stage, and juvenile stage. First, lets talk about larval stage.

After the eggs hatch, the newborn lobsters (the larval) will float near the surface for 4 to 6 weeks. They are very susceptible to prey during this stage and will go through three molts or stages. Molt mean cast off hair, skin, horn, or feathers.

Next, second larval stage, or you can call post-larval stage. Before they grow to the post-larval stage, they will through fourth molting, and the few that survive will settle to the bottom; look for hiding places in rocks, grassy areas, etc. and continue to develop as post-larval lobsters. Do you know? From every 50,000 eggs only about 2 lobsters are expected to survive to legal size. How wonderful!

After the few lobster that survive, they will grow become a Juvenile Lobster. As the lobsters grow, they become more adventuresome and hide less. Their habits are similar to adult lobsters. It takes 5 to 7 years for a lobster to grow to the legal size to harvest. A lobster at minimum legal size will weight approximately 1 pound. Legal sizes of lobsters can vary by state or country. Juvenile lobsters can molt as many as 25 times before reaching adulthood. They live on rocky, sandy, or muddy bottoms from the shoreline to beyond the edge of the continental shelf.

And now, the last stage. In this stage, the lobsters become an Adult Lobster. Lobsters reach adulthood after 5-8 years. As adults, males typically will shed or molt once a year, and females once every two years. The maximum age attained may approach 100 years! (Whooaw, they older than my grandpa! O_o). They may inhabit deeper waters and may return seasonally to shallow warmer waters

That’s all of lobster metamorphosis. Now, you can eat lobster happily. Because you know the stages of lobster. Just kidding.. By knowing the stages of lobster, now you know that from 50,000 lobster, just 2 lobsters that can survive to become the adult lobster. So it means that you have to maintain the nature sources, because if lobster extinct, our children can’t know lobster and can’t taste the delicious lobster. Kidding again, hehe.. The most important message that we want to tell you is, SAVE OUR NATURE! OK?
